Donate Older Restaurant Equipment to Schools
Share |

The DORES program allows restaurants to donate older, but still working, equipment to schools.

All equipment and supply donations should be gently used, or new, and in good, working condition. You
can claim a charitable equipment donation on your tax return to get a final benefit out of these items. Needed items include the following:

  • Foodservice preparation and cooking equipment,
  • Supplies
  • Appliances
  • Smallwares
  • Uniforms and linens

If you would like to donate, please contact NCRLA Director of Hospitality Education Mandy Hines at 919-277-8582 and provide the following information:

  • Name of Operation
  • Contact person and information
  • Description of items being donated
  • Total value of items being donated
  • Location for pick up
  • Available time/date for pick up (allow at least one week)

Information for schools seeking donations

Individual ProStart program equipment needs will be on file in the Education Programs Manager’s office. ProStart programs that have requested the specific item being donated will have priority as recipient. Once a donation has been offered, the education programs manager will contact ProStart school educator or administrator, via email, and provide the details of the donation. The contact person from the operation making the donation will be copied on the email.

If programs that have requested the specific equipment/supplies are unable to pick-up or no longer need the donation, other programs within the geographical region where the donation is made, will be given the opportunity to be the recipient and pick up the donation. As soon as the Education Programs Manager is able to confirm the recipient of the donation, the recipient (ProStart program educator or administrator) will confirm pick up date and time with the contact person via email.

The education programs manager should be copied on all correspondence.

DORES Distribution Procedures
Recipients are responsible for picking up the donated equipment/supplies at an agreed upon time and location. The recipient will be given one week to coordinate and pick up the equipment and supplies. If the recipient is unable to pick up the equipment/supplies within the one week time frame (due to circumstances beyond their control), we will work with the ProStart DORES Committee chairperson members, the NC HEF Board of Trustees and the donating operation to creatively find a solution to ensure the recipient receives the donation.
